Our Story

It's true what they say - there are always two sides to every story. In this case, it's Maritza and Nathaniel's wedding proposal. Check out their versions of the story below!

Maritza's Version of the Day of Events:
12/23/23 - Christmas Eve Eve
We woke up and Nathaniel recreated the first brunch we had together in New York back in November 2017 from Mel’s burgers: pancakes (sans powder sugar) and bacon for me, burger (and my leftovers) for him, screwdrivers for us both. After, we took a walk with Tank around the neighborhood a la our walk around Manhattan/Harlem while we talked, held hands and explored the city, including a tour of the school Nathaniel was teaching at. It was very sweet and sentimental but also exciting and fun. We came back to the house and Nathaniel built a blanket fort. We watched holiday movies - Nathaniel introduced me to Eight Crazy Nights, one of his favorite movies growing up, and we listened to nostalgic music - songs that we’ve loved since our relationship started and have resonated with us. Afterwards (around 4pm), Nathaniel told me it would probably be a good idea to start
getting ready to go to dinner - even though that wasn’t until 7pm...But I was glad to know when things were happening but not exactly the how and where.

Once ready, we started to walk to a dock on the harbor close to our place. On the walk,
Nathaniel shared qualities I have that he loves about me and that he knows will make me/us good partners for life. It was nice to hear the way he sees me, and to be surprised by some qualities I would never think I exhibit but that he notices and
treasures. Some of the ones he said are: kindness and loyalty, generosity, discipline, empathy, quickness/wit, adventurous, and that I’m a great friend. He also said I have the ability to light up a room and I’m always striving to grow, learn and change. I remember tearing up but also thinking, “OMG I want to see the ring!” And then quickly reminding myself to “stay in the moment” because “I’m going to want to remember this.”

Shortly after, we reached the dock and Nathaniel got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife and life partner. It was one of the best days of many best days to come.

Nathaniel's Version of the Day of Events:
1. Shower and shave and look my darn bestest!
2. Take dog out and pick up breakfast ingredients: pancakes + breakfast burger with fries
3. Take a walk with Tank and just be together (hold hands): reminiscent of our walk through Harlem
4. Build blanket fort, light fire, watch holiday movies:
- Eight Crazy Nights
- National Lampoons Xmas Vaca
- Last Holiday
5. [For the actual proposal] I originally planned two parts,
Part 1) we go on a drive to a bunch of locations that mean something to our relationship
Part 2) we come back and I propose on the dock where I have such a beautiful memory of us…
Picture summer with the fences still up at our place and just us on the small dock by MIDA. I know this wasn’t the only moment I knew I loved you, but the unbridled joy, the lack of
chaos, the ability to just be with ourselves is truly one of my favorite life experiences looking at beautiful downtown. Obviously, it’s a little too public now, but I wanted the
harbor to be a piece of our story cause our story in Boston has always been in this area and I would never trade it. As I consider partnership and what I want in a lifelong commitment I know you complete me. Some things we add to each other like being social and willing to try things, some things we meet each other needs like when I need to develop discipline and make a plan that is achievable and makes sense. You genuinely are my best friend, the person I want to spend every day with. There is never a time I’m doing anything that I don’t think about how it would be if we
were together, even when you’re on business trips! I also just love you for so many reasons, whether it be…
1. Introducing me to the finer things: Cunard Tavern (my thoughts of the good life), Bistro du Midi.
2. Adventure: South Station (NYC to Boston for love), Logan- businesswoman of the world.
3. Friendship: Eutaw Street- the way you treated your friends just confirmed all the good things I thought about you!
4. Kindness and loyalty: Tia’s - Supporting your friends and showing up for friends year after year.
5. Generosity: Whole Foods with the man experiencing homelessness and the $40 in chicken.
6. Discipline: you do what you say you’re going to do. There’s no doubt you will accomplish whatever you set out to do.
7. Empathy: Even though it can be hard sometimes, you always work to understand me.
8. Quickness/wit: You know you’ve got this one in the bag, from jokes, to expectations of others, to your ability to plan and follow-through.
9. Ability to light up a room: I’ve never had someone who I’m not afraid to meet my friends/family and leave them alone.
10. Adventurous yet still able to chill on a night.
11. And ultimately your Willingness to grow learn and change...
Will you be my wife and we can continue to grow together?
